Get answers about Survival to Strength, a strength training program for cancer survivors focused on health and recovery.
What is Survival to Strength?
Survival to Strength is a program offering personalized strength training for individuals who have had a cancer diagnosis. Our goal is to help participants stay healthy, independent, and active through customized physical activity and strength training.
Who is eligible to join Survival to Strength?
Anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis is eligible to participate. We welcome individuals at any stage of their cancer journey.
How is Survival to Strength different from physical therapy?
While physical therapy addresses specific medical issues and is often covered by insurance, Survival to Strength focuses on holistic recovery and overall health. Our trainers tailor programs to individual goals, such as regaining strength or improving mobility, rather than addressing isolated injuries.
What sets Survival to Strength apart from other fitness programs for cancer survivors?
We are the only program in the Midwest offering one-on-one, personalized training for cancer survivors. Our trainers understand the unique challenges survivors face and create customized plans to address them safely.
What does the training process look like?
After contacting us, participants complete a health intake with a trainer. This is followed by eight personalized training sessions tailored to their goals and physical needs. Trainers provide ongoing support as needed.
Why is individual instruction important for cancer survivors?
Cancer treatments can cause significant physical changes, such as scar tissue, mobility issues, and increased injury risks. Individualized instruction ensures each participant’s unique needs and safety concerns are addressed.
Is the program free?
Yes, all Survival to Strength services are completely free for participants. We believe financial barriers should not prevent anyone from accessing our program.
What kinds of goals can participants work toward in the program?
Goals vary by individual and can include anything from walking down the aisle at a family wedding to rebuilding strength for activities like paddling or weightlifting.
How does Survival to Strength receive funding?
Survival to Strength is funded through donations and fundraisers. Most of our support comes from people who have experienced the program or know someone who has benefited from it.
How can I support Survival to Strength?
You can support us by donating through our website or participating in our fundraisers. Your contributions help us continue providing free, personalized training to cancer survivors.
